A little girl playing hide and seek in an old house. The ones doing the seeking were fuzzy and nondescript. The old man she encounters is friendly but their conversation is on mute. He offers her a sip of his tea and a cookie before she rushes off to continue hiding.

A woman I worked with many years ago. She was about 20 years younger than me.

I only remember the night before. My mother was there, and looked VERY young, like her photos when she was just married. I was furious with her.

I kept saying things like, "Sure, go ahead and traumatize me on my birthday!" Then she went into the kitchen and grabbed a big knife BY the blade, and I had to try to get it away from her without cutting her...and I was saying awful things like, "You miserable disgusting excuse for a human being...I'm calling the cops!"

THEN we were at a mental hospital, and my mother was talking to a psychiatrist. He ushered me into the room, and told me, "Your MOTHER says you are LYING!" And I looked at her and she had this awful, smug SMIRK on her face like she always did when SHE was the one who was lying.
And the psychiatrist had this look on his face like he didn't believe ME about the knife and what had happened.

And then I woke up.
