When was the last time you owned a diary? Do you think you still need one today?

I was in 3rd grade, I got inspired by my cousin who's keeping one but then our older cousin (her roommate) manage to sneak out its locket and reads it to me whenever she's out. She was writing all about boys and her hopeless obsessive crush on some in which she never told us nor anyone maybe. It was truly embarrassing, reading her diary its like a different person than she is..Every time we read her diary....I feel so ashame of her and thinking of having one might cause me an embarrassment if one can manage to sneak out and yes when I got back home and got myself one. My brother found it and laugh out to my face about all I wrote. Since then I never wrote a diary again..but I do have a planner since its useful to wrote ideas to ajourn on a day..but at this phase of my life seems to be very much a routine and I just need one so I could bookmarked what happened to that particular day when the time comes I will need such..

I still write a journal. It's electronic and password protected. I find it useful not so much to remember what I did, but to see how I've changed in my perspective, and where I've grown. It's very difficult to do that unless you read your words as they were written at the time, rather than through the filter of memory.

When I was like 5 but I would rip the pages out because it was embarrassing
In a way I own a dairy. See, I'm writing a book, and the main character is a lot like me. When I need to vent about particular situations in my life or feelings I've felt, I'll write it into my book! It's a win-win situation for me because I get to vent, but no one really knows it's me. Haha

I tried making one in high school but then I realized I hardly ever added anything to it so I got rid of it. I kind of wish I made one now, just to chronicle everything I've went through with my brain tumor this year. It would start one now but they tell me it's finally starting to heal so I may not have to deal with it much longer...

@Carver: fingers crossed, I hope you don't have to put up with this for long 🤞

My grandfather kept a daily log. Most days it was just the weather and wind direction, but on many, he wrote a short blurb about something that happened that day. I have those "logs." Nearly 50 years worth...they are fun to page through and reminisce. Especially the ones he wrote something on while I was alive, because sometimes you remember what he wrote about.

@goliathtree: those are the best things on seniors..they got beautiful handwriting and can manage to write everyday :)
I had my first diary when I was 13 or 14. I started journaling at 20-21 for a couple years, and again at 46, for a year or so. It was helpful with processing my feelings at the time, but I don't feel it's really necessary for me now.

I never kept a diary; I was way too paranoid about other people reading it.

@crossproduct: I felt the same

No, I don't write, it's a lot safer to keep my ideas to my self 😂

Ive never understood the use of it... to write down something no one is meant to read? I remember it.. i meditate... i file on everything in my mind. What use would it have on the paper?
