What would you do in this situation

A friend of mine has a baby
Since her baby was born the father has been absent alot of the time minding his own business and fun

Now she's considering freezing her eggs in case in the future they want more children

Another problem is she doesn't have enough money to buy the medicine she needs for doing it. So far she's only been able to afford a third of the medicine

The question is would you help her pay for the medicine

Argument is

Absent father
If she can't even afford the medicine why should she want more kids
Or should I mind my own fling business and just help a friend.

I would help if I could. I think freezing her eggs is a good solution because her situation can change in time. She might make more money in the future, or marry a good man who has his life and finances in order. Perhaps just knowing that she has those healthy eggs in case she one day wants more children, will give her peace of mind.

Freeze her eggs at that income level? She's reading too many magazines. As she ages parenting gets harder. I was an older parent and really wish I had been a younger parent. Parenting a baby in older age is challenging on so many levels. I don't recommend it. Plus parenting should be strictly between the parents. Unless you are going to co parent? Co Finace the next 20 years of the child? And in that case you need a contract. A seperate but additional thought, if you're going to help someone it would seem that saving money for a life threatening situation is a higher priority than freezing someone's eggs. Now if your resources are unlimited, that's a little different spin on things as well. You have a good heart. But there are also children that need adopting.

Does she think having a second kid will make him a better father?
Nanori · F
@SkeetSkeet idk she was considering a "just in case"

If she can't even afford the medicine why should she want more kids

Exactly. Even one kid is too many.

My friends respect me too much to come to me with stupid ideas.

In no situation would I pay for someone else to freeze their eggs.

Other than that, people who have the money to afford raising kids comfortably should be open to adopting and/or sponsoring kids financially. That's the ideal.

People who don't have the money should spare kids the suffering of growing up in poverty and be more thoughtful. That is also good in itself.

If you can't afford to end a form of suffering, at least attempt to not create more of it.

I think it would be amazing to help her, but is it an impulsive decision or one she is sure will be worth it? There's a lot of factors, like her age, income, and the father being present is important too. Is she freezing eggs for if she finds a better father?
@EldritchFox That last question was in my head too.
Nanori · F
@EldritchFox the last question
Idk but I don't think so

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether @Nanori I think maybe more time to think it through might help.

She definitely should be out of the gene pool picking men like that.
It’s ironic that she gets blamed, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue his genetics with any other woman, ever again. @Munumbis

@soulrespite The post is about her not him.

I would stay out of it. That girl has serious priority issues.
Younameit · F
She should focus on raising the one she has now instead of having more kids. But that’s just what I would do. At the end of the day it’s her choice.
I mean it's ultimately her choice but it's not a life or death situation where I'd feel bad for not helping her with financially. She's struggling but not focusing on helping herself here, so nothing I would do would actually help in the long run. It doesn't sound strategically planned on her side.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Absolutely not and that's completely asinine. There are people who need the charity. People who want more kids but can't even be there properly for the one they already have aren't deserving of said charity and should be the last ones to be having kids in general
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
I think its an issue she has to sort out by herself. If her husband is immature as that, her having more kids is not going to help the situation.

Furthermore she should have known the financial cost of embarking on such a procedure, if she hasn't budgeted for such, is she really ready?

I'd definitely mind my own business and wouldn't fund this. Not even if the father was present because this is not something friends should be involved in, tbh.

@Nanori If you feel like that then that's okay but I wouldn't get involved in someone else's family life as a friend.
Girl,,, absolutely do not help her do this.

You need to be telling her not to have any more kids with that THING.
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
This is between her and shouldn’t involve her friends
Softandsweet2 · 36-40, F
Yeah, mind your business. That decision does not concern you.
GoFish · 41-45, F
no i wouldn't because that's irresponsible
That's very confusing wanting to have more kids with a father like that. I mean I don't know the full story but it doesn't seem very necessary because she's not doing it for a proper reason like to focus on a career or for health related reasons.
candycane · 36-40, F
id be taking him to court for child care
MethDozer · M
