If you knew what you were doing I suppose making a living filing then winning lawsuits could be exciting as well as profitable.

Or settling for a "fair" outcome.

It could, but what kind of lawsuits would you take?
@morrgin

But I wouldn't know what I was doing! That's the snag...
@morrgin

Sorry - I only now understood what you probably meant. Watch what others have done? There must be someone out there - besides Trump, recently - who knows enough about the risks and rewards of suing.

@rinkydinkydoink I looking at it from a different perspective than most I think. I'm currently self representing myself (basically doing everything an attorney would do without any training, education, or experience) against a lawsuit against me in civil court. I don't owe the debt that they are claiming and they know I don't, but they have an attorney and I don't. They filed without the standing to make a claim, using abuse of process, and making claims in bad faith. Those are just a few, but for someone like me who isn't an attorney I have to bring it up each thing they do and show how it ties to everything else. It's exhausting and expensive. So I've been on the receiving end of a lawsuit and it makes me nervous hearing about someone finding joy in it. That's why I would hope someone who files them are doing it for a good reason. There is also counter claims I suppose.
@morrgin

Surely there is some way available for someone in your position to enlist professional help pro bono?

I'm not sure if you meant I'm finding this post to be written in a humorous vein or not... if you or anyone else thinks that then - I'm serious, now - I'll take it down.

@rinkydinkydoink I'm the one that probably took it too serious. I don't get humor very well. It's a bad trait of mine sometimes. I take everything so literal. I like your post.

It's difficult in my situation to get help because it's not criminal so I can't get a public defender. I can't get an attorney on a contingency fee because they only do that usually with personal injury lawsuits. Pro bono is more rare than people think. I've tried law clinics and law schools. Legal aid won't take it either. Legal aid is pretty swamped right now. It's a complicated case even though I have solid organized and admissible evidence. The biggest reason no one will take it is because it started off as a family dispute. It's my sister that is using her business as the one I owe and bringing the claim against me. No one wants to touch cases that involve family except for things like divorce and custody. Only way I can get a lawyer is if I pay for one and I don't have the money for that.
@morrgin

Yours is truly an insoluble situation. Everything you wrote - all of it - was distilled neatly in your last sentence: "Only way I can get a lawyer is if I pay for one and I don't have the money for that".
