I have had that dream for a long long time. A cabin large enough to be comfortable with a wood-burning cook stove and surrounded by enough timber that I would always have a source of firewood.
That sounds lovely. Whitman and Thorea style. Recenter. I think I will start slowly by building a little hidey hole in the woods the way I used to as a child. Nap in the sunlight and autumn leaves.
Easier said than done.. just take a walk in a park and then go home.. how would you find an abandoned cabin and will it have pluming and what about food and ac? I used to want an island but i realized recently that logistically its not practical in terms of survival
@YoMomma I’d like to camp for a few weeks — that’s all. I’d have a tent, freshwater source, a big cooler, local trading post for basic supplies, during mid May in New Hampshire, Acadia, NY, Vermont or Maine . The Great Lakes would be nice too. I’d build fires, drink ale, whittle sticks, draw, read, write, do my best to limit screentime And I’d like to get messy. Dirty fingernails dirty clothes nappy hair a nice musky natural scent of humanity and soulful BO.
@YoMomma Agreed. That’s environmentally compassionate, safe, practical and wise. Good luck . Maybe start slowly—pop a tent in your back garden for a weekend before traipsing off to the cabin in the woods. Best of luck

You cannot have the abandoned cabin. It was mine first.

I just watched that movie about the Unabomber and I was so envious of his little shack.
Wait, plz pack mosquito repellant. Lots of edibles and a durable sleeping bag. Muslin cloth to be handy to purify water, just in case... A pillow wud be savior, batteries too...
