When did people stop wearing capes casually?

Did anyone actually wear them or is that just a lie? Why don’t people just wear them now? Maybe we should bring it back. This has been stuck in my head for half an hour now.

People wore capes because they were exposed to the elements. They didn't drive in a covered, climate-controlled car from one building to another. They wanted something to wrap around them when it got cold. If they got stuck in the rain, they wanted something to keep their clothes dry that could later be taken off quickly to dry.

Also, there's tremendous peer-pressure that all the cool super-heroes wear capes. 😆

@syfy86 Not according to my hero, Edna Mode. ;)

They were popular up to about King James 1st (1603 - 1625), but had disappeared by the English Civil War (1642). There was a limited comeback in Victorian times (1819 - 1901) as part of a gentleman's evening wear.

it's hard to do a roundhouse and kick someone in the face when you're wearing a cape... 🤔
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
@wildbill83 thats why you never kick to the head in a real fight. At most you kick to the upper body.

I defo would enjoy whopping someone round the face with my cape

Around the time sleeves were invented.
I remember seeing a kid in college wearing one.
Capes are like blankets with strings on them
