How long are schools closed in your area?

My kids' schools are closed until after Easter, and the college where I work is closed for 2 weeks longer. Every event of the semester with the exception of graduation is cancelled.

Pretty much all the public elementary schools in our metro area that I'm aware of are implementing distance learning first week of April. To my knowledge every district is helping with access to tech devices and finding internet access to those who need.

I have many parent friends across the country and I've become very aware of my good fortune and privilege to live in the state and city that I do.

I have been quite humbled lately and while I think I've always been a good citizen, volunteering and being charitable when I can, I've definitely felt called to keep doing better for my community and humanity.

I truly hope as a planet we can get our shit together and provide this same educational access to ALL kids. It's categorically unfair that my kid and the hypothetical disadvantaged kid next door [who would be in another district as mine is in a public STEM charter, and my job is secure], and the other neighbor kid who attends the public foreign language immersion school down the way all get to essentially have a 2 week spring break, continued breakfast and lunch service, and access to childcare if parents are essential workers when some really good friends of mine are officially SOL for the remaining school year and asking which subpar subscription online reading and math programs are best and attempting to construct ludicrous "homeschool" curriculums and schedules on their own or if it is worth the drama and risk of infection asking help from the narcissist non socially isolating grandparent who is only "babysitting" their grandkid for the money (I know more than one family in this exact sitiation sadly) and not truly wanting to help temporarily care for their descendant. We cannot let this happen.

@Starcrossed exactly..it's good to help even if just taking the kids in so parents can work to support them.

2 weeks, but there's a possibility that they'll extend it.

@latinbutterfly Lol! Hope he's staying safe!
@SW-User I hope so too. He works in an office and most employees are working from home to the diminish the health concern, so that's a plus.

@latinbutterfly 👌 That's great. It's nice to see everyone is taking precautions.

End of March for the state [but a LOT are on spring break this week] per the Governor though today I felt he heavily implied in not so many words it will likely be far longer.

My kid's public STEAM charter K-8 will begin remote learning in early April. Their school year is longer than a traditional year already so I don't think her school will do good adapting.

From what I've heard of mom friends in the area I think most of the more traditional public school districts in the area are also looking into remote programs at least in the metro area. The major metro districts have bus drivers delivering breakfast and lunches already.

Ours at this point are closed for two weeks (until March 30)...however they are going by two week intervals which could extend it up to eight weeks.

Everything is open. But that's not stopping parents from keeping them home.

Colleges and universities have permanently closed all in person classes for the remainder of this school year and are online only. All elementary, middle and high schools are closed until April 6th when they'll make a determination of what to do, online classes are seriously being considered
@SW-User My college is also doing online now. At first we were still going to have labs take place on campus, but they didn't want to take any chances.

I am not exactly sure. My counsin's kids are out of the rest of the year they just have to do their work online. My niece and nephews are out for two weeks so far, but they are using it as their spring break vacation.

“They” are saying two now. However, the county is under a state of emergency through April. I don’t see students returning.
Graduations are canceled etc

As of right now two weeks, or until the end of next week. However, things seem to change by the hour here.
