Best cure for nightmares usually for me is to talk about it with family/friends then a healthy dose of activities that take my mind off it such as games or tv or playing with the pets.. and then sleeping pill before bed. Usually after that routine the nightmare doesn’t repeat. As it’s off my mind and replaced by the following day.

I have not but if you find something that helps i'd be really interested to know what it is . The nightmares and lack of real sleep affect me all the next day , most of mine are actually memories reliving stuff from the past . I have tried sleep meds but they just made the dreams last longer ,i couldn't wake up from them like i would without meds.

@kodiac I’ve heard it helps the ptsd nightmares. I think I will try it, but I need a new psychiatrist first
kodiac · 22-25, M
@itsok I hope it works for you

When I went thru a stretch of nightmare - long story - they eventually put me on Lunesta. I don’t recall dreaming of anything then … just knocked me out. I came off in a month later and no more nightmares.

@DownTheStreet I was on doxepin a few years ago, and it wasn’t helpful
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
@itsok hmm. Maybe the med you mentioned is worth a try? Can stop if it makes you sick.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
No, what I did is just taking the dinner earlier, avoiding social media or any screen, doing stretching and getting a good posture, there's no magic pill for that, that's not how it works.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
Not myself, but I have a family member who takes it every night.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I have anxiety dreams all the time(yes I have OCD). Never been on that drug, though.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@itsok Lexapro helped with my unwanted thoughts. Strangely enough, my dad tried it and it gave HIM nightmares.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
@uncalled4 I've heard really weird things about Lexapro and I've used to myself. I personally like it for me. But it definitely can enhance certain emotions
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Notsimilarreally I was lucky and had little side effects.
No, I have not. Sorry
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Taking blood pressure medication only for nightmares seems a bit extreme (life threatening).
itsok · 31-35, F
@MartinTheFirst it doesn’t ease the nightmares at all, but it helps with anxiety some. I don’t think this is something people go to for an occasional nightmare or a mild disturbance. I slept 5 hours last night, and this is the third nightmare from last night’s sleep I’ve woken up shaking from
which means it’s the best night of sleep I’ve gotten in a week so far. When this goes on for months and years at a time, it is torture
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@itsok You're going to a psychologist and therapist right?
itsok · 31-35, F
@MartinTheFirst I’ve had both for 17 years, but I’ve been without them for 3 months now
NickyLee · 41-45
Have you tried smoking weed? Usually people dont dream at all if they smoke right before bed.
itsok · 31-35, F
@NickyLee yeah, it causes panic attacks
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Never heard of it.

@Rolexeo I do. Do you?
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@itsok I was having a lot of nightmares and now I rarely have any now that I got it under control, so I think it's related.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Rolexeo I usually have a few months on, a few months off for the nightmares. They’re back now. Bad sleep really messes with me mentally
