When i left school there was no benefits or sick pay. You had to work and we had a better society of people. I have worked all my life and people on benefits that have never worked a day in there lives are better off than me. With all the immigrants we have now this country is going down the toilet.

The benefits system is far too generous in England. It is bringing the country down.
It does not pay to go out to work.
In Spain by contrast there is no benefit system. People work. Family orientated.
I was brought up in the slums of England, lived off second hand clothes, my mother cleaned floors. Agricultural work was back-aching, when it was there. Yet we got by and were not unhappy. Family orientated, we all chipped in. Did not care that people were financially better off, that did not bring happiness.

Yes, because, in my case, and i'm only speaking for MYSELF. it would mean either i'm disabled or so sick that i am unable to work and take care of myself. I'm a workaholic. So that would be very scary for me.

Given the modern tendency of people to scaoegoat or look down on those less fortunate than themselves, yes I probably would be anxious to claim benefits.

I am not on benefits.
Though I retired early because my new boss was an absolute a*sehole I decided to retire.
Still 4 years away from official retirement date thus no pension available until then.
Rather that go on benefits, which is a degrading system here in Australia I have decided to live off my savings, then claim the old age pension in 4 years time.
I have ample funds to see me through to that time.
