What's the place where you grew up like nowadays?

The place where I grew up in Northern Illinois is a sadly a crime ridden dump, now. Prior to the mid-2000s, most of the crime in the town was confined to the low income subdivisions on the southeast side. But in the mid 2000's it really started to deteriorate, and by the time we moved in 2011, crime had spread to other areas including the subdivision where I lived.

My home was very rural, it still is but there are more houses now. Everyone used to be so nice to each as strangers but it did get a bit gossipy sometimes if you frequented town. The 2008 recession, election of a black president, and subsequent election of Donald Trump really brought out the bitterness in people. Trust in neighbors has dropped significantly. The political divide has everyone always on edge. And fearmongering about crime and low income housing has just brought socialization in the area to a halt.

It's really sad to visit home now and see all of this. Ten years ago i took my gf up there and she remarked about how friendly everyone was. We went up last year and she remarked about how bitter and angry everyone seemed to be.
