This question has actually been on my mind a lot for so many years and I could never decide which is the right answer. Like on one hand at least the bad person who knows they are a bad person is self-aware and honest about it... but I guess you could say they are worse because since they know that they're a bad person they have the capacity to change if they wanted to but they still don't want to change.

On the other hand a bad person who believes they are a good person is delusional and probably won't ever change because they don't see what they're doing as wrong in the first place, and they're probably sort of a narcissist... but I guess you can say that they just don't know any better which makes them less worse. You can say they're just ignorant or stupid.

I genuinely can't decide. I wonder what other people think of this topic.

@nobodyishome I am judgemental. So? Some people deserve to be judged. What am I hiding? My bank account - you?
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@InterdimensionalSideEye I dont judge, or like or talk to judgmental folks. I'm sorry!
@nobodyishome No worries. Have a great day
Fertilization · 36-40, F
The latter one. I mistakenly clicked the first one.

How about someone who knows they are a bad person but recognise that reality and take steps to make meaningfull changes for their wellbeing and for others also, do they have a place.?
So someone who is selfaware
about themselves is in the better position to make a positive change.

@Mickey27 True but in the context of this question/poll it's supposed to be a trick question between two equally shitty options that forces you to think. If I were to include the option you described it would make things too easy as obviously that person is the best one and everyone on the poll would vote for the objectively most moral person by far.

It's sort of like would you rather get punched in the face or kicked in the gut...both extremely shitty options though one must surely still be worse than the other even if by a little. But adding your option in would be would you rather get punched in the face or kicked in the gut...or have a nice shoulder rub? As you can see, way too easy.

Just an analogy but I believe effective in this context.

@EzraIsShy76028 yeah i hear you there, some just revel in being shitty people no matter what. My answer was meant to reflect on that the bad person that knows that they are bad has the better chance of making a change because they taken the first step of owning their issues. Rehabilitation has helped many if taken seriously and desired, it doesn't delete the shitty things already done but it's preferable to the narcissism option, without any of the backrubbing/stabbing, imbo
Tbh, i'd say a third option of a bad person who knows full well they are bad and is knowingly masquerading as someone good. People like that scare me because they tend to have the benefit of calculated deception... I'd argue as dangerous as someone who is bad and thinks they're good. if they think they're actually good, they're less apt to try hiding their dealings because they think what they do is great (delusions of grandeur and the like)

A lot of the worst people think they're great people.
They are both devils

But. If I pick one to lean on.

It’s the one who knows he sucks but still does the same thing anyway.
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@DrawntoaDistance Yeah I can understand this perspective perfectly. At that point it becomes a choice. It also implies that the one who knows he sucks but does the same thing anyway is more intelligent or educated than the one who sucks but believes he is awesome who is more likely a lot more ignorant and stupid. An intelligent person who knows better yet does bad versus a dumb person who does bad because they believe it's the right thing to do.

A bad person who believes they are a good person is worse.
Both bad.
One knows they are bad, yet continue to be bad. A choice.
Other is bad but in denial, continues to be bad. A choice with a lie. Seems the second would be worse, but really it ends the same. They continue to be bad. Bad is bad, no matter how you get there, no?
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@dragonfly46 Well said. The result is still the same in the end. Somewhat unrelated but the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" which is usually for a much different context still somewhat applies here because it's about motivations not mattering if the result is still negative. Regardless if you planned to do good or do bag the result was still negative.

In this context there is no good perspective just two more or less equally shitty people but the result is still the same.
twistedrope · 26-30, M
Everyone is a hero in their own head IMO. Even people who call themselves bad. Chatising yourself is not the silver bullet to make yourself more pleasent.

Even acknowledgememt of fault can be used as a weapon to attack people. I think it's silly to categorize people like that. It's just not helpful. People are individual and react differently to fault within their own contexts and sensitiviry.
Youwereexpectingajoke · 31-35, M
From a purely moral perspective it must be the first. Intent is a big factor in this.

If you mean which is more dangerous, possibly the second.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
What's a bad person? A person without empathy for folks who are hurting
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@nobodyishome I mean obviously? That's exactly what I'm saying. Everyone is shitty regardless of gender or race or whatever.
@nobodyishome I mean it's kinda hard not to judge people such as child molesters or on a smaller scale than shitty coworker who constantly spreads rumors and starts drama. I don't exactly enjoy judging but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@EzraIsShy76028 yea, gossiping is not so nice, i kinda dont do it either. Im happy with that :)
EzraIsShy76028 · 22-25
@nobodyishome Yeah gossiping is usually how conflict and drama start. Life is already difficult enough without getting in the middle of that shit.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
anyone who expects validation of being a good person, is a bad person...
GoFish · 41-45, F
The bad person who thinks they are good is the worst because they justify their acts of evil in their own mind and the world is full of them these days terrorist and leftist who hate anerica and other things 😒
