Out of body experience

When the abuse got too bad to handle i would be floating above my body just watching.

How about leaving your body so rapidly that you went dizzy - just to avoid the sensation of getting hit or raped again???

I have never had any but I know people do sometimes report this strange feeling, and I am curious to know what it really is.

Is it some extreme sort of hynagogic hallucination? Those are typically the common, sudden and momentary feelings of falling or of being pressed down; or of briefly "seeing" objects in a very dark bedroom as something they are not; associated with the mechanics of sleep.

I have experienced the "falling" and the image-making, a few times, but not the pressure. Nor the impression of floating about, looking down at oneself; but that seems more commonly reported by people in medical extremis.

Hypnagogic dreams are now understood as being simply that, but might have be responsible down the ages for many "ghost stories" previously dismissed as over-active imagination. They are in a way, perhaps, but are involuntary and can be frightening despite being harmless.

A few year's ago, I was intubated in order to be air taxied to another hospital, well I died (temporarily) mid flight, which was in itself a trip, but it's hard to tell where that experience ended and my coma dream started
