I can completely understand why some people are afraid of flying.

Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
In the US, about 42,000 people die annually in automobile accidents. For aviation related deaths for the last 10 or so, the numbers range from 150 to about 550 a year. Some of the accidents pictured above occurred back in the 1980s. I have been involved in aviation maintenance since 1985. There have been so many positive changes in training, crew resource management and technology like better equipment, better weather radar and better organization and maintenance practices, the only thing I am uncomfortable with when flying is that the skinny seats don't fit my wide bottom. AN aircraft crashing is big news because it is a rare thing. If it was as frequent as car accidents, it would get as little coverage as they do.

If someone has a fear of flying, look at the fatality rates in any given year. If that doesn't reassure them, then they can always drive.

Thank you for the clarification and putting things in perspective.

I flew on 9/11 this year and as the plane got started, ready to move, the engine suddenly stopped, and all the lights went off. Then u could hear that sound when somebody turns the keys into the ignition but the engine doesnt start, a couple of times. Then we waited for like 15 minutes and then it started and we flew off.

Yeah, but people should also be afraid of bathrooms too. More people slip & unalive in bathrooms, stairs, anywhere than in ✈️
@leeloh True. If you slip in the bathroom and hit the back of your head on the tub for example, your lights are probably going to be out for a good while.

I just hate air travel with a passion - I've been international and domestic by air. Not my preference.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@butterflybaby75 why do u hate it?
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I would honestly feel pretty safe flying nowadays than say back in the 70's or 80's for example.
luv2fly352 · 70-79, M
I've been a private pilot over 40 years and still fly. Safer than driving.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
The last time I was on a plane was 1988. Hopefully never again.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
I always look forward to my window seat .Then hope for the best. Lol
RedBaron · M
Especially if you get on this flight...
@RedBaron Oh my God. I shouldn't laugh at this, but those names 😂.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
Driving is statistically more dangerous

@DeluxedEdition I always imagined I'd just jump out of the window right before it crash lands... Yeah. I'm a genius alright 🤣

@DeluxedEdition
lucky to be alive
Be careful 🙂
@DeluxedEdition True. Airplane pilots don't have to deal with dumbasses cutting them off and stuff 😆.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
U are more likely to get in a car accident then a plane one
@smileylovesgaming I would imagine that aircraft are a lot safer nowadays than they were 20 years ago.
calicuz · 51-55, M
Yeah, but you're safer in a plane than in 5 O'clock traffic
I love flying and sitting next to anxious ppl
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
These are the extreme exceptions not the rule.
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
and, per passenger it's the safest wat to travel
jackson55 · M
Safer in a airliner than you are in your car.

I fly to join the Mile High Club!😋
I’m terrified to fly …
Oh yes…
On one hand, there are much fewer plane crashes than car accidents. The latter happens much more often.
On the other hand, one is much more likely to survive a car accident.
@bijouxbroussard Makes sense. A jet plane is going so fast, that if it hits the ground or collides with another aircraft, it's most likely going to blow up like the 3rd picture.

Not some...but many. 🙂
