When looking for a roommate, is it true that you shouldn't choose your friends?

I've heard about this many times and I've wondered.

It depends on the people, you may find out things you wouldn’t have known, like they don’t pay their bills, or they consume your food or other things.

I've heard that you shouldn't be in a relationship with them

For friends, idk.

@sarabi imagine having a falling out with a significant other and they just so happen to be a room mate lol
@deadgerbil That’s pretty much the definition of a marriage or living together situation.

If you are effectively the landlord then it's much harder to kick out your friends than someone who is just a lodger.

Even if not looking for a roommate,I could never turn a friend away if homeless.

Yes. Ive been screwed over. Then i had to kick his ass out. The friendship ended. Dont do it
It can ruin friendships if somebody is a bad roommate.

Yes. You'll eventually end up hating each other.

Living with an unfriendly sounds worse.

I would prefer a friend over a stranger
It really depends. On one hand, living with someone can definitely wreck or strain a friendship. On the other, you should live with someone you know you can trust, and with a friendship trust has already been established.

@bijouxbroussard
with a friendship trust has already been established

This would probably be the deciding factor right here.

Not necessarily. Just make sure your habits and their habits are in harmony.
