When looking for a roommate, is it true that you shouldn't choose your friends?

I've heard about this many times and I've wondered.

It really depends. On one hand, living with someone can definitely wreck or strain a friendship. On the other, you should live with someone you know you can trust, and with a friendship trust has already been established.
