Spouses cannot be compelled to testify against their spouses, so it's not unknown for people to get married to cover their asses.

Also, in some places, it's legal for an adult to marry a minor that would get them arrested for statutory rape if they weren't married (with permission of the minor's parents or legal guardian). Maybe you're thinking of that.

Not in the US. There have even been a few cases of people getting arrested at their own wedding. Talk about a buzzkill
