How do you get back to the dating life?

After nearly 10 years of being with my significant other. We decided it was best to go our separate ways. We are now divorced. My question is....how do I get back into the dating world? What are good dating websites? What are y'alls experience with these websites? Thanks
This is what I suggest. Wait for a period of time after you are divorced. It is a time to grieve and to mourn. I feel for you as I was in a long-term relationship and then I divorced. I first took some time to enjoy my freedom. It was a horrendous marriage too. Then I started looking around. I checked out several websites. I really didn't find anyone suitable. I found either the men were unrealistic in what they wanted ie one wanted love at first sight and another had a hot car-there was no spark between us and another brought me stinking lilies and was very effeminate. I never did find a decent website. I had my eye upon I think it was match.com or the one for people over 50. Then I met my ex-partner on another website. I would think carefully and find a reputable site. Maybe that one where you answer a billion questions and find someone who is similar to you. Harmony? Pursue your hobbies. That is where you will find single, available people. Try something you already enjoy or try something you have always been interested in. I am sure you will find someone as you are young and seem open-minded. Watch out too as many websites are just meat markets with you being the meat! Many people these days seem to think freedom means sex on the first date. That's fine if that is your mentality, but I think that sex on the first date likely means no second date. Keep your standards. Have fun. Be safe. And all the stuff that goes with it like meet in a public place, tell someone where you are going, have a phone buddy, etc. Good luck.

I am excited for this new adventure 😍 Have a good day.
@delissasheart Nice name. You too, hon. :)

@PoetryNEmotion I had to laugh when I read this. Couldn't agree more. The men that are desperate to find love and just want to find anyone to love. Professing their love after a couple dates. Being desperate is not attractive. I am dating someone now that I'm happy with. But, went through a lot of horrible first dates before him.

Dating is for kids. Dating is stressful, and can even be dangerous. Do you really need to date?

Find some kind of new hobby, or revive an old one and get together with other people who are into that activity. Or volunteer for some kind of charity where you actually do something, like Habitat for Humanity where people build houses. Meeting and getting to know people is much easier when you are doing something fun in a group and being in a group takes the pressure off the situation.

@greenmountaingal It's something I would like to do in the future. I will have to look more into that. I think meeting someone in person would be more comfortable than via website.

My suggestion,
Real life meetings.
An Art gallery, museum, library, book store, music store, grocery store, movie theater, coffee shop, dance, club, outdoor event... Anything where you can meet real people and strike up a conversation. Take it from there.
delissasheart · 31-35, F
@Montanaman I am positive about that too. ♥️

@Montanaman Or flats, Kelly. LOL.

I don’t know you personally... but if I broke up with someone after 10 years... I’d just take a year to explore me!! Me time!! Me vacations... Me shopping!! Kinda find myself and ground myself before stepping into someone else’s drama!

@PoetryNEmotion I love sex, but I am not looking for that right now. Everyone wants sex but not everyone wants to appreciate the qualities out of sex.
@delissasheart Hey! I got nipple piercings to celebrate. I love them. That was 5 years ago. It has been a learning experience ever since. But mostly wonderful. Freedom has such an awesome taste. When you are not suffocated, as you have said. You will do fine. And you will meet your life partner in time. You have the right kind of attitude! Bravo!

@PoetryNEmotion I got mine done 2 weeks ago...and I love it! Thank you so much♥️

I've had both good and bad results with dating websites. Try a couple and see what's out there. Just like in real life, you have to weed through the bad ones and chalk it up to a bad experience when it doesn't work out. There are some good guys out there, though.

I had a bad marriage, too and with that comes trust issues. So, I actually took quite a long time to be by myself and figure out what I wanted first. Best wishes.

Thanks you♥️
@delissasheart so glad you were able to get out of that abusive situation! Best wisbes on finding the right guy for you.
I was between marriages for 12 years. No shortcuts. You kiss a lot of frogs... and enjoy it... and one day..: voila! The frog you were looking for... and you learn to shed your froggy skins together.
@Melies What a unique way to look at it! LOL.
Of course that last sentence took ten years to work through...
Thank you, @PoetryNEmotion
I don't. I do not believe I can. I was married a long time (32 years) to one I now know that never loved me. I have far too many trust issues to trust another with my heart. And that may be rather unfair to others but that is how it is. In truth I have forgotten HOW to date. I do love my solitude but I hate the loneliness.

Good luck to you. You are half mt age so it should come easier to you . Just set yourself free and let yourself live a bit.
@Elandra77 It is sad and tragic that you let someone control your heart. And your mind is still sad and you are untrusting. I wish you wouldn't let this continue. But you are you. And it is your life. Solitude is fine. I enjoy it so much. The peace of it and all. I also know that my heart is loving and I am willing to love again.

I read your last 3 sentences. And I feel you still have some hope. Your walls are not so high and so enclosed that you can wish others luck in love. And you still know what freedom and living entail.

I realized that I needed to love myself first before I could love anyone else. I am ready for this new chapter. To find someone who makes me laugh, who picks me up when I am down.

All dating websites are just hook up sites. Doesn't matter if free or pay, 90% of the people are looking for $$$$$ or hook ups.
delissasheart · 31-35, F
@KittenfromHell I could see that🤦

I think they're all much the same, just depends on what you're looking for. Confidence is always the best, most attractive quality I found. If you're sure of yourself and what you're looking for, or in the very least honest about being unsure, then you should be fine. And the most important thing is that it should be fun. It's a fresh, new stage, and it sounds like after whatever you've been through, you're due to enjoy yourself. That should always be your first priority.
Good luck! Not used them. Have met others through school or work friends.
Online dating worked well for me. Not saying its for everyone, but, i met some really great ladies. Including the awesome lady that i am with now.

When I got divorced, so much as 18 years ago, I felt like a dog in a boat.
I never imagined that there was someone (women are wiser) waiting for this to happen.

How does one even get into the dating life to begin with? 🤔
delissasheart · 31-35, F
@silver1985 🤷‍♀️

Here is my formula:
1. Wait until you're truly ready. I can't stress this enough. I fell for someone I shouldn't have because I began dating her before the ink was dry on the divorce papers and was vulnerable. She got to me. Pretty, intelligent, sexy....and a Fatal Attraction-like control freak.
2. Dating websites are just another way to meet people. Don't fall for the BS that some websites have "dimensions of compatibility"....they are just throwing stuff at the walls. I had good luck with Match.
3. Don't expect to hit the ground running. Expect to need a few dates to get back in the game. It's not you.
4. Check back here. We're no experts, or we wouldn't be on this site lol

delissasheart · 31-35, F
@MartinTheFirst No, I am not desperate. I have been separated for awhile and divorced for 5 months. Please don't jump into conclusions without knowing the full story.
