How come clothing sizes aren't the same in all stores?

I know my size. Most clothing stores I frequent carry it and I have had no trouble just finding it and buying without trying it on. However I went into a shop called 'Rivers' and thought I'd do the same there. It said it was my size. When I got the clothes home and tried it on they were 3 sizes too big! Serves me right for not trying them on.
The world of 'fashion' rarely standardizes sizes - despite some of the regulations of the industry. If they have sizes which do not sell so easily as others, the tag is often altered.

Women have this issue in most stores. Each brand determines what is a "size two" differently.

I bring a tape measure, even clothing from the same brand can be different sizes.

I feel your pain. Years ago I learned to ALWAYS try clothing on before buying it. Especially if the stuff was made in a different country, like China, then the sizes are going to be all screwed up.
