On the contrary, it's a very human thing to do. I once read a science-fiction story in which some aliens kidnapped some earthlings and caged them. The captives were treated well but still were prisoners. After a while, some sort of rat or mouse appeared, and the earthlings caught it and made a little enclosure for it to keep as a pet. The aliens then released the earthlings with an apology, saying they did not realize the earthlings were advanced beings. It seems they captured the earthlings for their zoo, thinking they were just dumb animals. Only advanced intelligences imprisoned other creatures, and that's how they realized their mistake.

Same as for other animals in zoos. But, most of our experiences, the things that make us animal lovers,is often such exposures.

I actually agree with you. Birds, especially parrots, are very intelligent and it's difficult to keep them mentally stimulated enough in captivity. That being said, responsible bird owners will let them fly around during the day and only cage them at night when they're sleeping anyway. The problem is, most people aren't knowledgeable enough or don't have the resources to care for birds properly. I once heard that Hugh Hefner, the Playboy publisher, had a flock of hyacinth macaws that he kept in an aviary, but very few people can afford this.

When I lived in San Diego, I used to visit Free Flight, an aviary maintained by the veterinarian Gary Gallerstein, who has written several books on parrots. The birds were free to leave if they wanted as there was no net or enclosure, but they all stayed as they appreciated the food and people keeping them occupied by playing with them.

Putting any animal in a zoo is inhumane.

Not letting them fly freely is selfish yeah.

You're absolutely right. Birds aren't made to live in cages. Of all the creatures we keep as pets, they should never be locked up.

Keeping any animal caged or locked up or restrained should be made illegal. All animals have the right to live their own lives in their own way. Man does not own this planet, we have no right to dictate how any animal lives.
