Why are gyms filled with unfriendly people?

Has this been your gym experience?

No, I don't go there looking for conversation.
People are just very unfriendly there.
Some are downright rude.

I may just start using the "free" gym at my apartment

I joined up at my local recreation centre. It's cheaper then the other gym. Most of the time, I'm the only one in there. I don't mind saying 'G'day' to people as I encounter them but they never say 'hello' back.
