How fast do you believe the average man SHOULD be able to run a mile? How about the average woman?

I havent done cardio in a while but decided to get on the treadmill. With a combo of kinda sprinting and walking

1 mile - 7:20
2 miles - 17:00
3miles - 28:30
When I was a teen I ran a mile in 4:52. Wasn't good enough for varsity though.
@MntoNc Our varsity milers were closer to 4:30 if I recall. I was allowed to run the two mile for the varsity team, even though I never broke 10 minutes.

@ElwoodBlues yeah right! The world record for the fastest mile is 4:12 for female and 3:43 for a male. They would br world class athletes probably
@MntoNc According to US national high school records,
https://www.kentcityschools.org/trackandxc/Records/National%20Boys%20Records%202013.htm

Mile run . . 3:53.43 . . Alan Webb . . South Lakes High School, Reston, Virginia. Webb ran his 3:53 at the Prefontaine Classic, Eugene, Oregon, May 27, 2001.

Just to see what high schoolers can do in a small state, I checked out Rhode Island: Mile- Andrew Springer (La Salle) 6-13 2009; 4 Minutes 2.70 Seconds

So I don't think a 4:30 mile in high school is that remarkable. And like I say, mine was a mere 4:52. I'm still proud of it though - neither of my sons ever broke 5 min!

Most insurance companies require an under 9 minute mile for good rates .
On a good day I can do 3 miles in under half an hour . Usually it’s like 29-32 minutes .
I ran in around 8 when I was in high school. I couldn't do it now.
