Something I heard a lot in school was “I don’t believe in evolution, but I do believe in natural selection.” Is that cherry picking?

Very much so.
Accepting that life changes over time with successive generations but declaring without reason that life can only change so much is just a silly position to take.

Seems kinda impossible... or like saying you believe in evolution of one or maybe two generations but it suddenly stops after that.

@sstronaut I think it comes from transitioning from a strictly biblical belief system to one that’s incorporating more science. Like they’re trying to meet it in the middle.
