Frozen pipes

Merry Christmas to me. My gift? The well froze up last night. I've had this house for 9 years and never had the well freeze up before.

Fortunately, an extension cord and a blow dryer seems to have done the trick. Growing up back in Ohio we'd have to let water run at a trickle overnight just in case. Never thought I'd need to do that here in Central Florida. Ah well.

I lived in a trailer for a while - this ONE spot would freeze and I'd be under there with the hair dry

I live in an apartment on the first floor now - on a slab - no longer have to worry about it where I live

little blessings are often the most overlooked :)

Get a small space heater. Thaws pipes quickly like a hair dryer on steroids

they make a waterline heater that will turn on and off as the temp changes on the line

Your pipes are not built to withstand the temperatures like the materials used in colder regions. I think this should be a stabdard across tbe US despite weather.

Though I still don't know why we need to drip water in the faucets either. 🤣
@JaggedLittlePill Even when I lived in wisconsin during the polar vortex we never wasted water letting the facuet drip and never had an issue.
Wow. Climate extremes are getting worse.

@LordShadowfire not particularly. First time it's done this in nine years. One day's temps cannot really be considered climate. And it's not staying that cold. Will have to wait and see if hitting that cold becomes a trend or not before considering it climate change. Hot temps and hurricanes are what we have to watch for climate change impacting down here.
