Why can't Europe be united as a nation?

SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I think it is remarkably united given the diversity of cultural and historical backgrounds. Anyone who calls themself European is part of the European nation, irrespective of the political status of the country they live in.
erika88 · 26-30, F
@SunshineGirl LOL i never understood why australians compete there too 😂😂
or azerbaijan and izrael .. what a silly show HAHA
@erika88 Technically, yes, they're all on the same continent.
jackieash · 26-30
@erika88 If they are members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) they can enter any Eurovision event, not just the Eurovision Song Contest.
The EU actually works. And the UK was beyond stupid leaving. It is now in terminal decay.

I think there should have been more European studies in UK schools. Looking for ways of integrating our Polish friends , when a million came. England was becoming multicultural , it was great.

But then there is France, I love France, it’s culture It’s food it’s drive. But it’s rivalry why

An age gone. Now we only have to look forward to is China, Putin and some Israeli war.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@sunriselover smartest move leaving the eu
jackieash · 26-30
@sunriselover Trouble is, the EU is moving further to the right, and individual nations within it are veering to the right. Portugal being the most recent example after its election.
@jackieash I have not followed that one. But that is bad news.
SW-User
why can't Americans be united as a nation?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User too many communists
@SW-User Indeed a good question.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@SW-User For the same reason Brexit occurred: both events are in line with Dugan's vision in his magnus opus (Foundations of Geopolitics), which is pretty much Putin's operative manual.

Relevant bits:

- Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States and Canada to fuel instability and separatism against neoliberal globalist Western hegemony, such as, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists" to create severe backlash against the rotten political state of affairs in the current present day system of the United States and Canada. Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics".

- The United Kingdom, merely described as an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S.", should be cut off from Europe

Bonus:

- Ukraine (except Western Ukraine) should be annexed by Russia because "Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning, no particular cultural import or universal significance, no geographic uniqueness, no ethnic exclusiveness, its certain territorial ambitions represents an enormous danger for all of Eurasia and, without resolving the Ukrainian problem, it is in general senseless to speak about continental politics".

Each country in Europe is VERY different. Many in Scandinavia and other countries don't feel they have much in common with other countries, and want to have their own culture, religion, language, music, art, customs, and the way they raise their kids are very different.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Most people don't want one world government.
It's actually happening at a very slow pace. Uniform currency, tax harmonization, open borders within the Schengen area, etc etc.
JackdanielsA · 36-40, M
@ElwoodBlues I agree
Um...it's a group of nations.

They already came from the EEC to the EU, which is a huge step.
erika88 · 26-30, F
different cultures and mentality among the european nations
not compareable between the people who live in the US
redredred · M
Because it’s full of Europeans
@redredred And proudly so.

Stuff the UK and it’s isolationism.
redredred · M
@sunriselover looking at Europe today, I can’t thank my ancestors enough for leaving. 1500 years since Rome fell and you guys still have over a dozen different languages, and even more borders separating tiny little countries. I speak the common (but not official) language of the neighboring states and all but one Canadian provinces.

Great cheese though.
@redredred I live partly in Spain and in the UK. And have lived in France. There is a rich common cultural heritage. I miss the Eastern European diffusion into our country.

So where is the UK to turn to, surely not the USA, a failed msn made Utopia. Our links with Canada are slender and our links to Australia are all but non existent.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Too many communists
@MasterLee capitalism is no sunday picnic either, and actually worse.
Carazaa · F
@MasterLee There are no communists in Europe!
jackieash · 26-30
@Carazaa Certainly not in any position of political power, any way. In fact, Europe is veering towards the far right.
They're probably more united than the "United" States at this point.
Morvoren · F
We aren’t one people or one heritage. It’s not meant to be.
Elessar · 26-30, M
We're getting there..

Viper · M
Some nations aren't all that united...

Also because certain people want powers over others, and no one wants undue power over them
IM5688 · 61-69, M
Because they look at how well being united has worked in the US and they don't want it. LOL
It's a region. It should be united. Capitalism and NATO are in its way.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
They don't wanna be.
Why should it be.... all those languages, cultures and histories....no!
Because they've seen the USA.
SandWitch · 26-30, F
It's because Europe is not a Nation. Europe is a continent and therefore is not a country.

Having said that, the USA is a country located within the North American continent, yet the USA as a Nation unto itself is not united in any way, shape or form.

Why would you expect Europe to be united as a continent, when the USA as a country is not united?
