…people either deny it ever more furiously, or claim to not know what you’re talking about 😡😡

They're too morally invested in global warming being fake because they've helped delay action for so long.

My take is that it's because a certain percentage of the population has been systematically manipulated to think and act against what's in their own best interest. This isn't the only topic it applies to. They get their 'news' from those who pedal in fear, blame, anger and enemy. And then they coalesce in to "sides." Being part of a group is really important for some. It gives them something to fight against. People literally died because they were told that Covid was a hoax. And they believed it. So when death isn't a deterrent all bets are off.

@Ynotisay it’s horrendous. Saving our planet has become a political issue
Ynotisay · M
@SW-User Yep. And it's so blatantly obvious why that is. That's the part I don't get. I don't know if it's just a lack of self-respect, or a need to be told what to think, but it's something I can't wrap my head around.

Either cause they are scared or just not bright enough to understand but there are also those that are aware of it but don't want to change the status quo or use people being scared as a way to win elections via right wing populism.
originnone · 61-69, M
@Gloomy In the US, there's also a strong lobby for things that greatly contribute to it....particularly coal fired power plants.
A lot of people don't care about reality, they just repeat what they hear in the media they watch.

@boudinMan on the contrary meterologists are aware of the evidence so why did you just make a factually incorrect statement?

Just follow the broadcast and analysis on the current events in southern Europe

we don't deny it, we deny that humans have any significant impact on it...

the average co2 content of atmosphere is 0.04% (400ppm), humans contribute about 10% of that; and that figure hasn't changed in 70-80 years.

It's amusing to me that greenies drive around in their electric cars patting themselves on the back thinking they're saving the world, when they still buy 99% of their shit from China, which couldn't give two shits about pollution and has four times more coal plants than the rest of the world combined (1100-1200)

I think it is because the solution requires effort and often fundamental change to one's habits and chosen lifestyle. Which is probably a terrifying concept for the average conservative.

Or they start to pay attention to its effects? 😅
Alyosha · 31-35, M
There's no need to worry. The only way we survive what's coming is to shut down all industry, and that's not going to happen (check the UN climate reports - even switching to green energy from where we are would throw up a shitton of carbon, ensuring we get more than the 2 degrees Celsius increase). We're already dead, so enjoy the hamburgers.
SW-User
@Alyosha I hope you’re wrong. We need to start sequestering carbon away as well, though
Ynotisay · M
@Alyosha Any chance you could share a link to any of those UN reports? Bet you can't. But maybe you can prove me wrong.

@SW-User That was painfully stupid 🤮
