I was on one the islands around Hong Kong. The beach was absolutely full of trash. The locals told us, the trash comes from China...the currents wash it up on their beaches. And it's only a very small percentage of the trash China dumps into the sea. America is not environmentally perfect, but we aren't the problem with the trash in the ocean.
Most of the environmental problems occur in China, India and other less developed countries. But of course, the US has to pay the bill and get the blame. I can't stand paper straws. I just toss them out and drive the old fashion way.
@SW-User I don't think most of these clowns driving around in their mostly plastic electric cars, living in their houses full of plastic, complaining about oil on their plastic cellphones, etc. have realized yet where plastic actually comes from...

Fishing nets is a way bigger problem than plastic straws. And as for plastic goes mircoplastic is the biggest plastic issue in the ocean. Banning plastic straws like many progressive policies are just for show and tell does nothing to fix an issue besides maybe some relief fund or tax bill that will most likely profit off of in the end
@SW-User I remember when glass jars were used for almost everything. Some of those jars could be used as everyday drinking glasses and some like peanut butter jars had measurements on them to use for measuring food when cooking. I have been getting jelly in these for a couple of years. People are trying to sell them on EBay now.
Most of the plastic is being used by sea life and the sea life is thriving because of it. Dr Patrick Moore formerly of Green Peace does a nice take down of the plastics in oceans myth,
@Changeisgonnacome As Dr Moore points out these catastrophes all happen where no people can witness it. The greatest increase in global temperatures as recorded by the authorities happen where there is no thermometer to measure the temp. The plastic island is way off shore when no one can witness it. The starving polar bears are polar bears and no one is there to witness it.
