Would you garbage pick?

Sometimes when I'm running on garbage day I'll see some good stuff. It's not like I go digging through bags but if there's decent usable stuff why not? My friends say it's embarrassing and shameful.

One time when I needed a new lawnmower I saw one sitting out with garbage. It was great, had a few bent parts I sraightened them, it started right up. A friend said there's no way that was thrown away, somebody must have taken a break and left it there.
