Not especially, no; once I knew what was happening. After that I enjoyed the flying itself, but I must admit these were all short trips.

My main fear in air travel was not being in the aeroplane, but finding my way through the airport!

For films and TV News videos show a major airport is a vast, confusing sprawl of interminable corridors between complicated gate and security systems and large lounges. These all full of expensively-dressed business-class types all knowing exactly to where they are quick-marching; their grimly determined fashion giving them a pretence of urgency and an air of arrogance - but may hide their own fears or innocence.

Several real experiences (one holiday with friends abroad, 4-hour trip; several internal,1-hr flights with work teams) confirmed those impressions.

Though at least I did notice that the labyrinths between the many barriers, passenger-pens and over-priced refreshment shops are clearly sign-posted, so navigating them is not quite as difficult as navigating the aircraft.

Only a bit.

I was 38 first time I flew. Flight was from England to Dominican Republic (8 hours) and I can truly say that I enjoyed it. I spent a bit of time walking up and down the aisles to keep the circulation going whilst watching in-flight movies (falling asleep in the process ... lol) I didn't feel at all nervous :)
