Apartment. Easier to keep clean and dust-free on your own. Plus, they feel more secure.

All that stuff you're obviously paranoid about doesn't actually happen in the real world of apartment living. What's she's referring to when she says "secure" is that a person can remain totally anonymous living in an apartment because it isn't obvious to anyone that you live there nor is it obvious that you're even home.
@swirlie LMAO I'm not paranoid about it, but these events are on the news, so they are much more common than--say--the air in a room all bunching up in a corner.

I wasn't sure what the OP meant, but it's clear that cooperative activities (like driving on roads with other vehicles) or situations (such as living in an apartment building) can subject others--potentially even everyone--to the actions / choices / etc. of the worst drivers or renters.

[To be fair, an apartment renter in NYC told me *that* city had a great fire code which required 1' of pea stone between floors; this deadened sound from other floors and was a great fire break, tending to inhibit a lot of vertical fire transmission. I've not checked whether or not this is still in place, but it sounds like a great provision.]
