Because we always look at our current problems and troubles as being immediate and looming and tend to forget how big our past troubles were.

Because when we look back at things... we tend to only watch at certain aspects. The experience never is "complete" like the present is. Ussually when you look back at things you tend to forget certain aspects, emotions are less intense and we often romanticise certain aspects.
People have been looking back for ages, and a big chunk of people always think that the past was better then then the present. Even tough objective data often refutes this 🤔
EDIT: Could also be you did more Acid and Shrooms when you were younger. Loads of colors there.

Because I could move more than 1/3 of my body back then, mostly. Also, no pain.

My past was never fun and the only colors were black and blue. For me now is better.
