I doubt they do. It’s just like the idiots who called Obama a Marxist

I don’t think they do. I see posters call anyone who doesn’t agree with them “liberal”.

@bijouxbroussard Exactly what I'm talking about...

@curiosi
Liberals typically believe that government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others, but they also recognize that government itself can pose a threat to liberty. As the revolutionary American pamphleteer Thomas Paine expressed it in Common Sense (1776), government is at best “a necessary evil.” Laws, judges, and police are needed to secure the individual’s life and liberty, but their coercive power may also be turned against him. The problem, then, is to devise a system that gives government the power necessary to protect individual liberty but also prevents those who govern from abusing that power.

@SubstantialKick Offering free stuff in order to get votes is the evil Paine warned us about.

It's like a lot of words that have been co-opted by certain types of people.
I mean, does 'patriotism' really mean a hypocritical belief in god, a denouncement of those who aren't white and conservative and pretending to "support the troops" when it's convenient?
The new one on the hit parade is "Socialist." Does it matter that there isn't one federal lawmaker who is a Socialist? Apparently not.

@Allnighter The term is used in politics just because someone is a not a fan of the current leader in chief. As I said, it's tossed around without even knowing the true meaning.

With the frequency it gets used, I think everyone probably needs to look it up. Like "racist"
