Why is there a D in fridge but not in refrigerator ?

The same reason "one" sounds like it would have a "w" in it but "two" doesn't.

@JamesLeroy Not really. Fridge originally was short for the brandname Frigidaire, while refrigerator is the generic name for an electric ice box.

@JamesLeroy It's all part of the same thing. The short answer is because English is a screwy language that often doesn't make sense.
