Observing Lent

For those of you who partake, what are some things you’re giving up to observe Lent?

Not trying to be self righteous or anything or cause a ruckus from those either for or against organized religion.

It’s just a question.
I’m no longer observant. But when I was, I’d give up things like coffee or chocolate. Believe it or not, a young priest once told me the following joke:

A couple decided to give up "marital relations" for Lent.

To strengthen their resolve, it was decided that the wife would sleep in their locked bedroom, the husband downstairs on the living room couch.

So after a long 40 days, the wife heard a knock at the bedroom door.

"Ah, I know what you’re knocking for,” she said, smiling.

"Yes," replied the husband. "But can you guess what I’m knocking with ?"

@bijouxbroussard What's the 40 days thing about? Is this supposedly where 'knock on wood with wood' lol comes from?
@zonavar68 That’s the length of Lent (among Catholics)
Lent is a period of 40 days of fasting and prayer leading up to Easter. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday, just before Easter Sunday.
I only know of Lent, but don't know what it is other than being a religious thing and being non-religious it's not something I get into. I don't follow anything related to liturgy or liturgical structures and feel that such as part of Christianity in general or another type of religion is just a method of control.

However I respect people who do choose to do Lent and similar things as we live in a world were (mostly) free choice is permitted.

Haven't really decided if I'm giving up something we're going to try to do something extra during Lent this year. I normally prefer to do something extra whether it be go out of my way each day to try and help someone or offer kind words or do some kind of volunteer work.
