What's the strangest thing you ever tried to learn?

For me it's prolly going through a course in Mongolian and old norse throat singing, and it was damn fun too
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
When I was a teenager, I actually horizontal cliff climbed every cliff between South Carlsbad and La Jolla shores! Took me multiple times though and even fell into the ocean a couple of times.

Note, I always was a very strong swimmer. Even tried scuba diving before that.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@DeWayfarer Ooh that's cool, must have been quite an adventure. Reminds me of when i used run on rocks lol, very fun but also so damn dangerous
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Axelerator I did a lot of crazy things back then. Often hitch hiked all along PCH back then, on top of that.

Japanese but I just should continue with it.

And well, astral projection hahaha
SW-User
@Axelerator also would like to see the aura colors and things like those
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@SW-User I think it's much to do with that, but im not sure anyone knows exactly the rules surrounding it. People are still trying to discover it I guess.
Yes that would be cool for sure, seeing a visual hue of energies in the world, I'd love to experience it

Astro projection, lucid dreaming, meditation and some stuff that won't be mentioned here.
SW-User
@Groofydorkgerdo no, I felt that I was about to but never happened and seems very interesting
Groofydorkgerdo · 56-60, M
@SW-User I was very young when it happened to.me.
Actually I thought it was natural and that every one could do it.
It wasn't until I use in my 20's when I realized how unatural, it is.
I tried doing it again some.time later, but to no avail.
I wish I would have known how special the experience was.
I wish I would have paid more attention to it.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@Groofydorkgerdo I have found stuff like that very fascinating as well, and I've always wanted to experience both astral projection and lucid dreaming, but it's never worked truly for me yet. Apart from the worst nightmare of my life, and ironically that's one time I didn't want it.

I've dabbled quite a bit in meditation and believe it's a very healthy thing. I should do it more these days tbh
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Sex romance intimacy relationships friendships - all of that is very foreign to me and seems to have no relevance to my life as an adult human scientological meat-body type thingy.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@zonavar68 That would count as strange yeah, even if not to many.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
How to blow a bubble inside a bubble with bubblegum. It's called an inception bubble and now I'm an expert.Probably not that strange but definitely an unusual skill.
I can knot a cherry stem in my mouth too.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde I see, those are def unusual, do you ever have any use for them these days?
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@Axelerator I just love doing them. The bubble blowing gets me a lot of attention,I show off by bubble blowing in places like resteraunts and winebars,at work, the shopping mall and when I'm driving my car.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde As long as you love doing it that's what matters most, interesting skill for sure:)
WhateverWorks · 36-40
Did some research on Samaria lore. Wrote about therapeutic strategies for blind persons who have experienced trauma
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@WhateverWorks thats very specific, but im sure very helpful for a blind traumatised person, good on you
Luciano · 41-45, M
Understanding people behaviour. It’s a never ending lesson.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@Luciano And it is indeed a strange thing at times.
@Luciano There is an infinite variety of it.
exchrist · 31-35
voice throwing
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@exchrist that's awesome, I've looked at that too. I really like the idea of being able to shape one's voice in totally different ways
exchrist · 31-35
@Axelerator Yea I was really good at but it was the summer before college so I dropped after about a week to be with friends
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@exchrist I see, well it's never too late to try it again, maybe you should.
Always awesome to have unusual skills and abilities.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@LilithoftheTrees Did it ever work for you?. I've dabbled in it as well and find it very interesting
@Axelerator some very strange things happened yes, however I am unsure if that was just a confirmation bias or something.
SoLeRiMix · 31-35, M
Oh! An application related to the work. It was so hard for everyone to understand. Office decided to look for something better right after a week.🙂
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I tried to learn to play the bagpipes. I could play the trumpet so I thought I had the lungs to play the pipes. I was wrong.
Trying to figure out the appeal of watching a bunch of cars going around a racetrack 🤷‍♀️
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@FreeSpirit1 The only reason I watch races is to see the crashes.
summersong · F
Probably lock picking or Irish step dance. Maybe plant-based medicine? Idk I have a lot of random interests.
caccoon · 36-40
I don't really find anything strange to learn... but I guess the most out of character thing for me would be powerlifting.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@caccoon I guess that could count for strange, what made you wanna do that?
caccoon · 36-40
@Axelerator my friend asked me to go with her. I really enjoyed it
Straylight · 31-35, F
Knife throwing.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@Straylight Ah that's a cool one, can you still do it?. I'd love to learn axe throwing sometime myself
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Axelerator It’s been a while, so I’m probably pretty rusty.
GBPackersFan · 41-45, M
Basik Enhlash
omg,,, you did? that is one of the most beautiful sounds a human can make
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@deathfairy yes I did. I agree it's like no other sound or singing. I'd love to maintain it for the rest of my life, even if I only chant on my own:)
The bagpipes. Living in an apartment made practicing problematic, so I gave it up. Same with flamenco dancing, but when I took those classes I lived in a ground floor flat.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard Haha that's great, I've never even touched a bagpipe, maybe someday, who knows

I do like dancing though, but never tried Flamenco before.
SW-User
I tried throat singing once too. I didn't get very far with it 😅

I also taught myself how to do proper screaming vocals without hurting my throat much. Idk why. None of the bands I was in ever did that kind of music
Axelerator · 31-35, M
@SW-User That's great, I haven't learned that yet tbh, but I do enjoy singing for sure
