College Football is the NFL only the players don’t get paid.

The schools get hundreds of millions but the players nothing!
Viper · M
That was absolutely true... and maybe still mostly true. But they at least can get paid via endorsement deals now
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Viper Fair enough. He may be a liar, but he’s our liar. In a corrupt system, there’s no honor among thieves.
Viper · M
@Bumbles He's certainly not my liar lol

And I try not to make acceptions for negativites just because they help me, in fact, you just blew your entire argument about the NCAA as they used the same horrible logic.

This is horrible system, but it's our traditional horrible system that benefits us, so we're keeping everything as it is. Same as your defense of Jim Harbaugh.

@Viper I freely admit my hypocrisy. No justification for it whatever.

Oh, and Go Blue!
dale74 · M
Not now.... and just like the NFL not every player is equal..

College Athletes Can Now Be Paid. But Not All of Them Are Seeing Money. Is ... https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/06/learning/college-athletes-can-now-be-paid-but-not-all-of-them-are-seeing-money-is-that-fair.html
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@dale74 I don’t think the comparison negates the lack of pay for college players, though.
dale74 · M
@Bumbles well if i have a kid and they is good enough for college i would have them going out for major sports at the recruiting camps. If they get it they can gos to college later.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@dale74 Sounds like a good plan.

They, too, develop CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). Football is a bad thing. Soccer is far better.

Movie, "Concussion" tells the true story. I believe it is child abuse to let children play football.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
of course with the cost of tuition/books/rooms they are getting paid - and non-taxable too
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Pretzel Yes, that has value, let’s say about 50k a year. By comparison the minimum salary of first year NFL player is $750,000. That goes up to $940,000 by year three.

Also the education these kids are actually getting is usually sub par.
originnone · 61-69, M
more like minor league baseball...with even less pay.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Don't those athletes get basic literacy training in college? Most have gone through life through playing kids games.

College sports are why tuition is insanely high.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Crazywaterspring Probably! Depends on the school, but big footballs programs support all of the other sports.
Of course they get paid sillay, they get paid in EXPOSURE
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
That is not the case anymore. Check out NIL deals.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
Capitalist dream.
MethDozer · M
Yeah it's kinda fucked but I see the problem being less than college player not being paid as much as colleges being allowed to make so much money off of it as a business.

Sports at all levels are fucked and gross these days.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@MethDozer Indeed, the TV contracts are enormous as are the salaries of many of the Head Coaches, which are in the millions.

@Darksideinthenight2 Yes, top players only, which is great for them.
