Yep. If we can give corporations a free ride, there is no reason we can't give our citizens a free ride. The priorities in the US have been f*cked up for a long time. Stop catering to the ultra rich and start helping people who actually need it.

@DearAmbellina2113 Which corporations get a free ride?
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@HoraceGreenley banks, industries, industrial farms, etc.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@DearAmbellina2113 This has NOTHING to do with corporations. I paid my loans so why cant this generation do the same. Nobody twisted their arms to go to collage and amasse debt in the first place.

@HoraceGreenley https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/list or even, more recently https://covidbailouttracker.com/
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@DearAmbellina2113 And exactly how are they given a free ride?
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@HoraceGreenley see above

@Elessar First, you realize that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not corporations but Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSE). They receive their funding from the federal government. So they certainly don't count.
You also should know that most companies that were given bailouts gave the money back because they didn't want to be subject to the reporting requirements that came with the "bailouts."
Secondly, you should notice that even if this list is accurate, the vast majority of companies repaid their debt with interest and the federal government made money.
So the federal government made a very nice profit on this activity, as the programs were intended. i fail to see the issue.

@pdockal That's like saying "I beat cancer, so why can't everyone else?"

Remember, these are no "bailouts" but loans charging interest. The programs worked. i don't know the particulars, but in any loan portfolio there are defaults.

@DearAmbellina2113 There are always defaults. That's like saying, I know someone that died from cancer. Why doesn't everyone die?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@HoraceGreenley Those lists *without* accounting for the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac amount to $1,400 bln. If you can allocate 1400bln for corporations just fine, you better come up with a better excuse than "we can't afford it", not everyone in America is as braindead as republicans to fall for such cr*p.
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
Elessar · 26-30, M
@HoraceGreenley Actually there is, unless you think your economy could last long if people stopped getting educated altogether to avoid going bankrupt. As I stated in the other thread, ask any country that experienced a brain drain in the past century how much it benefited them.
HoraceGreenley · 61-69, M
@Elessar I never said don't educate people. I do advocate doing a better job of it.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@DearAmbellina2113 stop confusing the issues ... people dont choose cancer ... people choose to go to college .... people choose to spend their money on other things so why should I pay for their choices & decisions ?
if you cant afford college then go get a fucking job & save
