dont you think its sad that some people over the age of 45 still live in rented accommodation?

hunkalove · 61-69, M
I've always lived in apartments, and with roommates. A house is an unnecessary responsibility. I've never wanted to own one, nor did I ever want to have to work hard enough to own one, and you're looking at making monthly mortgage payments for 30 years!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Do you have ANY idea what a mortgage costs ?😡
Do you have ANY concept of utility bills ?
Do you have ANY idea what local taxation costs in some places ???????
In the U:K the average house price is close to £200,000 with many folk working minimum wage jobs and no reasonable wage increases in at least the last FIVE years !!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I've just finished a thirty year career as a social worker.
In ALL that time, i only came CLOSE to earning enough for a mortgage ONCE !!
And these days, i'm too old TO BE CONSIDERED unless i get some mystical job earning £130,000 a year!!!
It's so unfair and SO unnecessary to have house prices so high.
I don't worry for myself, I spend much of my time taking care of others so i'm rarely in one place long enough.
But when i watch my children being messed about by idiot employers wanting zero hours contracts and paying them a minimum wage. THEN have them coming to me asking for help with the rent......It seriously pisses me off !!!
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
well your kids should have been cool and went to school, then they might have got good jobs that didnt pay £6.50 an hour... but in saying that i dropped out of school at 16 and im earning like £20/hour as a car mechanic
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
DO THE MATH !!!
Most jobs wouldn't earn enough for a mortgage that size UNLESS you have partners who earn substantially more !!!
Everyone's on a different journey. Maybe owning a house means nothing of importance to them.
LaFemmeAmelie · 31-35, F
1. don't judge other people. you don't know the circumstances of their lives.
2. owning a house isn't the end-all-be-all. doesn't make sense for some people because of different circumstances. See #1.
3. societal norms and expectations isn't always "right".
4. You quote "half a million quid". half a million won't get you a condo in San Francisco. again, different life circumstances for people.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
but it would get you a mansion where i live
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
Just as sad as kids living at home after school is completed
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
meh i lived at home until i was 24... thats like 10 years after i finished school
Buying a home isn't actually smart for most people anyway. It's just a societal norm.

Yes, and even sadder that some don't have anywhere to live at all.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
No, some people just don't want to buy.
mrmoose · 70-79, M
i rent, and am happy to have a place to live
SoulAsylum · 31-35, M
Not at all things don't always go as planned.
No ,we don't know the reason. For it
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
I've owned a house and then sold it after my kids moved out . I didn't feel the need to maintain a large house . I now rent a smaller apartment .
Noble · 56-60, M
No, many chose to. It's not a bad option for many.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
but what are youre kids going to inherit when you die?.... im kinda glad that my parents own a house thats worth half a million quid.... though i only get a third of that
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheCoolestCat: Kids generally don't keep the inherited house anymore. Hell, it's somewhat rare for the kids to even live in the same city to begin with.
Noble · 56-60, M
Children are not entitled to inherit. That said, my children in particular will inherit my remaining savings, and investments.
For others, they may have savings and investments without bing real estate.
StepDad2 · 36-40, M
It's smart if you think about it. So think about it. 🤔
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
its not smart at all, you can get a mortgage and pay less for it each month than what youre paying in rent to some dick
StepDad2 · 36-40, M
@TheCoolestCat: I pay a mortgage and all the maintenance and repair costs. That all adds up to a small fortune. And then you die.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
well lifes really all just about killing time until you die
[c=#BF0080]No, I'd be sad if they were still living at home at 45.[/c]
