In the U:K the average house price is close to 拢200,000 with many folk working minimum wage jobs and no reasonable wage increases in at least the last FIVE years !!

yea my friend has a mortgage he pays like 拢450 a month for his house that cost 拢90k.....
yea i know about bills i have to pay them myself
dont know much about tax though.
and i also live in the uk but i live in NI its like the cheapest place to buy a house the average price there is about 拢100k

Average Council tax is 拢737 per year although i seriously think it's higher in many places !
It's ridiculous !
The government has weazled it's way out of building council houses at reasonable rents or rent to buy for 20 years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In short, you have two generations working as often as they can to earn a minimum wage in order to stay at home !

@TheCoolestCat: why do you assume everyone is as lucky as you? I don't know ... I get where you're coming from--because it makes perfect sense--but sometimes things don't pan out the way we want or expected.
I'm lucky I live in a house and I don't have to pay rent or the mortgage. but I think it's very condescending to call people "sad" for not being in your idealized situation.

I've just finished a thirty year career as a social worker.
In ALL that time, i only came CLOSE to earning enough for a mortgage ONCE !!
And these days, i'm too old TO BE CONSIDERED unless i get some mystical job earning 拢130,000 a year!!!
It's so unfair and SO unnecessary to have house prices so high.
I don't worry for myself, I spend much of my time taking care of others so i'm rarely in one place long enough.
But when i watch my children being messed about by idiot employers wanting zero hours contracts and paying them a minimum wage. THEN have them coming to me asking for help with the rent......It seriously pisses me off !!!

well your kids should have been cool and went to school, then they might have got good jobs that didnt pay 拢6.50 an hour... but in saying that i dropped out of school at 16 and im earning like 拢20/hour as a car mechanic

Most jobs wouldn't earn enough for a mortgage that size UNLESS you have partners who earn substantially more !!!
