How much do you know about the history of your nation and your local area/s (where you have lived) compared to other people & are you satisfied with

with what you learned in your school about it?

Quite a bit, but I’ve always been curious about history.

The curriculum has changed quite a bit since I’ve been in school but I would describe me education regarding things like WW2 acceptable and things like First Nations here in Canada unacceptable.

Our school history curriculum is rubbish.

We've so much local history, a Anglo saxon bronze agd settlement was recently found next to the high St, then Romans, Dark Ages, Normans, Barons revolt, up to Nelson and Dickens etc etc but hardly anyone knows much.

I was stopped in the street some years ago by Italian students asking questions about the area. Apparently I was the only one that knew more than two Dickens novels let alone start pointing out places he used as inspiration.

A fair bit but then history has always fascinated me and I have a degree in it🙂
I know quite a bit about the history of my country and my state. My mother was a teacher; she made a point of making certain we all knew. I grew up during a time that a lot of changes were taking place. They weren’t always discussed in school, but they were part of current events and we lived them.

It saddens me that now, in some parts of the country people are trying to censor historical fact, ironically groups who previously claimed to support "free speech". Apparently teaching future generations about the mistakes we’ve made as a nation is more dangerous than risking repeating them. 😞

I won an award in high school for American History.
I live in an area rich with history…from the Iron Age hill fort on the mountain behind me,through Roman occupation up to the Industrial Revolution and even electoral reform..The Chartists marched past a matter of yards from where I live.
I know quite a lot about it but I do have a History Degree.
