Our school history curriculum is rubbish.
We've so much local history, a Anglo saxon bronze agd settlement was recently found next to the high St, then Romans, Dark Ages, Normans, Barons revolt, up to Nelson and Dickens etc etc but hardly anyone knows much.
I was stopped in the street some years ago by Italian students asking questions about the area. Apparently I was the only one that knew more than two Dickens novels let alone start pointing out places he used as inspiration.
