Okay, so I finally blocked someone for tossing around the "n" word…

White kid (18-21) who informed me "nobody takes offense it’s not racist now, it’s about ‘intent’". Is that right, Junior ? How about you come over to the Bayview/HP and test that theory ? 😤
Rutterman · 46-50, M
You did him a favor by blocking him. He needs to be disabused of the notion that nobody takes offense to the word.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
Sorry you had to deal with that BB. I suspect unfortunately that on SW, there's plenty more that agree with that moron and just aren't saying it.
@luckranger71 Probably so. But the fact that they’re not saying it shows a certain amount of restraint.
This kid clearly doesn’t care if it offends anyone, because I put him on notice some time ago and hadn’t seen it from him in awhile.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Why do people think they have a right to tell other people what they are offended by?
How in the heck would you know what intent was meant on the internet?
And what other intent ,that I don't know about ,excuses someone for using that word?
Disrespectful and stupid.
@Justmeraeagain I wouldn’t have bothered having the conversation with him if I’d thought he was a lost cause. He was otherwise fairly intelligent. And I did stop seeing him use the term for awhile. So when he just popped out with it again, I was done.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard Sorry, some people just don't anything they don't wish to.
Piper · 61-69, F
I kind of get the why of some black people using the word. What I will never get is why anyone who is not black would want to or choose to use a word with such an ugly history of contemptuous and demeaning "intent".

I'm very aware why some people choose to use the "n" word, of course. 😑
Ynotisay · M
@bijouxbroussard You made a solid argument. It loses its power when it's seen as a slur by all.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Ynotisay Saying I kind of get the why of some black people using the word, was in no way an argument in favor of the "appropriation" of it.
Ynotisay · M
@Piper Totally understood. Didn't take it that way. 👍
I can't believe it surprises me still how idiotic some people are still. Glad you blocked him
spjennifer · 61-69, T
It never ceases to amaze that bigotry like that still exists today, it's the old, well the rappers say it so it's ok for me to use it too. Kid has probably never said it IRL or someone might have taught him how offensive it really is. 😖
Ontheroad · M
Intent my hind end. Maybe intent to be stupid, and depending upon where you are, intent to get a can of whoop a$$ opened up on you, but that's about it.
Pfuzylogic · M
The only way a kid gets away with that is anonymously behind a keyboard.
@Pfuzylogic True. I have the feeling that depending on where he lives, if he used it in rl, someone might’ve expressed surprise—at least.
Pfuzylogic · M
@bijouxbroussard
I taught high school to rural Indiana kids during the 90s. I had a pair that were ignorant enough to fly a confederate flag on their car in downtown Detroit and act surprised by the hostility they aroused.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
I find it strange that people who have never experienced prejudice think that way ☹️🐼🥢
@Dlrannie Same. In a previous conversation I explained that even black people who use it casually among themselves (I don’t) generally don’t want to hear a white person saying it because it is still used by white supremacists. I told him if he wasn’t one, he shouldn’t want to use such an ugly, controversial term.
He argued with me ! 😳
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard Sadly some people will never learn to understand how such terms are offensive. I’m Eurasian (English- Chinese Mix) and find it sad I receive a degree of prejudice from both sides of my heritage ☹️
Ynotisay · M
Yeah. That would play well in Hunters Point. My guess is Whitey McWhiteboy has never been off the farm.
i moved from 5 points denver.. to kansas. what a change.. and not for the good..
The Harlem of the West: Denver's Historic “Five Points ...
Escaping the Jim Crow South, black migrants settled in Denver only for segregation to follow them. Yet they still built a vibrant, prosperous community in the Five Points at the turn of the twentieth century.

There is an N word for him, nincompoop. 😆
Although i agree it is about intent.. they obviously have to be a moron to think that nobody is offended by it and that it’s ok for everyone to use it 😳 people are so ignorantly annoying sometimes 😒 or maybe they are just a troll? Some people go out of their way to be infuriating
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Dumb ass white boy needs to bring his mouth anywhere south of I-30 in Dallas or in a number of areas scattered around Ft Worth. He'll get an overdue education. He could run his mouth in Houston and disappear.

One day we're going to meet for lunch.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I dunno, maybe where he hangs out it doesn't matter to the people his age? No idea if that's the case, but perhaps?
@ChipmunkErnie Then he should restrict it to when he’s hanging out with them.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Yes, but if he lives in a situation where it's accepted I suppose he figures it's accepted everywhere? Like I said, I don't know what his situation is, so it's hard to comment w2ith any certainty why he feels this way.
@ChipmunkErnie He can’t watch much television or social media, where people are still getting fired over it. I had a previous conversation where I explained that even many black people who use the word themselves (I don’t) don’t want to hear it coming from someone white, because it is still associated with white supremacists. These are facts, regardless of where he comes from. And he’s arguing with me. Let someone else explain it to him, then. But I’ve seen folks get their butts kicked for not "reading the room" with that one. 🙄
fun4us2b · M
Shameful really. Sad to say, many times that's learned at home....not always, but many times...
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
I dare him to go to Compton or Oakland and freely use the word 😂
@Zaphod42 Exactly.
Dino11 · M
The 'kid' could have a very rough road ahead.
@Dino11 Indeed.
Its a disgusting word and it shouldn't be said period.
Fluffybull · F
Good for you! 👍
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
To me, it's all about respect. I'm the biggest anti-censorship person, but since that word has such horrible, terrible connotations, I am happy to never, ever utter it again. Now, being an Italian guy, I'd hope that the same courtesy would be extended to me, to not have anti-white or anti-Italian words thrown at me. I have had that, and I feel for people who have gotten shit because of their skin color. I refuse to contribute to it.
@uncalled4 Exactly. There’s a conversation that I’ve had with young people in my own community. Artists choosing to incorporate the word in contemporary rap/hip-hop have done us a disservice, because others take it as permission. The word cannot be neutralized. Too many have died horribly with that last epithet in their ears for that to be possible. 😞

Or try NYC, around 125th street or so.

I'm certain there would be warm regards.
empanadas · 31-35, M
I bet he never set foot outside his gated . Jesus the ignorance on that kid
deadgerbil · 26-30
@empanadas who is this guy

@markansas Chris Rock is talented, but he often doesn’t help in these situations. And even he has said,
White people don’t get to use the term. Too much history behind it.
@bijouxbroussard well i will try and do keep a open mind.. sometimes its hard to see the line.. still love him tho. mark
and you know me by now.
