Do you take the flu jab?

Had the flu jab and now I'm experiencing the flu.

I took paracetamol before the appointment too.

Ugh!

It would be worse if you hadn’t had the jab though. I get one every year, as well as a Covid jab, as I work in a hospital = a lot of contact with these conditions.
The jab doesn’t stop you catching these things, but it makes the symptoms a lot less harsh. Hope you’re ok x

@Oneofthestormboys yes I understand that, and tbh because I'm with child that's why I've taken it.

It will go very soon but for now I'm feeling very drained. The first day I was fine. Funnily enough walking like nothing not even a sore arm.
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
@Mellowgirl I get both of mine at the same time to get it over with - normally feel like crap for a day afterwards, then it’s fine.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
No. It causes me to have several episodes of Paraflu each time I’ve taken it and that was 30 years ago. Never again.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti fair enough. Sometimes these things can cause a bad reaction. I took it last year with baby and I was fine. But this pregnancy has been very different

haven't yet but will today

I just to get a bug every year but don't since I've gotten the faccine

could be coincidence - but I also haven't had polio since I got the vaccine either.

I am this year. I usually don't but my son and I got flu b at the end of winter and it was bad.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@ScreamingFox yea if you catch it it's really not fun especially with the strain of COVID going around again. Better to try and protect yourself so it's not so bad if you do come in contact with someone with it.
tobynshorty · 51-55, F
Yes I had it Wednesday and felt rough for a few days but better no. First time I have had it in years.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
There’s a fair number of people who get flu like symptoms a couple days after the flu shot. It sucks, but it’s normal. If that’s what it is, you’ll be ok again in a day or so.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Zaphod42 I got Para-flu when I took the flu shot over 30 years ago, not just one episode but several through the winter. Never had it before I took a flu shot, haven’t had it since I stopped taking it.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@cherokeepatti that's awful. You must have felt so rough, do you remember how long you were ill for in total?

Yea I wasn't a person to take it before really even though medically I'm supposed to and when I worked in healthcare.

When I was 17 I went to my grandparents who had the flu they didn't know they were sick until boxing day. It was so bad as my nan had touch all the food for Christmas day.

We travelled Back the 27th and my god my mum and I were sooo sick.

I missed new years... 🥹

I've been told how irresponsible I was for not taking the flu jab when I cared for others but actually. My immune system was incredibly strong and I hardly got sick because I was in contact with so many things daily.

I also find now I'm not working in a medical field my colleagues are constantly getting COVID and the flu. So it has to do with lifestyle and hygiene.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@Mellowgirl for me. It’s pretty much like a heavy pollen day with my allergies… Not so terrible. Usually comes on the day after or the day after that, and last for a day or two. All in all, not terrible to what an actual flu does.
They advise I do. Last few years Ive been ill with other things and they advised not to. Im booked to have it on Friday
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@V00doo see how you get on. I think my immune system is a little low as I've been really stressed out.
@Mellowgirl Yeah. Got no plans for next weekend so hopefully can fully rest
nevergiveup · 61-69, M
I am having mine Wednesday with a shingles jab to
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@nevergiveup good luck. What's pissing me off the most is the itch at the back of my throat. I wish I could scratch it. Tut.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Nope! Not since the Covid vaccine. Both my wife and I started developing too many health issues after that. And just remember, what you put in you will also go into your baby. I definitely wouldn't take anymore jabs until after the baby is born.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Musicman I've never had an issue with the flu jab before, my first is fine. And so will the second. Id rather not have to be rushed to hospital because I've developed pneumonia or something.

So many people due from the flu.

I also think age, fitness, diet factor into how one is affected by the strain.
This year it's been noted to be especially bad. So that's probably more to do with it. And I've also been incredibly stressed with does the immune system no good.
JessicaMe · 31-35, FNew
That’s why I stopped getting it. Never again
Atlotto · M
I've never taken a flu jab and I've never had the flu...Knock on wood.
Magenta · F
No, never.
That's what my natural immune system is for.
TexChik · F
No. It's less than 4% effective and most physicians won't take it
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@TexChik in America... That may be true but my team when I worked with them used to go to the onsite clinic to get their jabs.
