Measles outbreak in New Mexico spreads to Texas

I recently read that my state, New Mexico, had more cases of measles diagnosed in 2024 than the entire US reported in 2023.

I understand that some are afraid of vaccinations. I was born in a time when vaccinations were not yet available for some diseases. As a toddler, I had a close brush with death from polio. My brother was deaf in one ear due to mumps, so I have a different perspective.

If you are a parent who fears vaccination, I implore you to discuss the issue with a pediatrician. Reconsider.

I had my own "near death experience" with the early polio vaccine. I was only 6 months old and had a severe reaction. It saved thousands of lives in the long run but there were some problems early on. There is a book called "Dr. Mary's Monkey" that was a fascinating read and had some very interesting anecdotes about those early problems!
@GerOttman I wasn’t sickened by the vaccine, which became available within months after my recovery. It was polio that got me.

I was beyond lucky. One leg is ever so slightly shorter than the other. I had to learn to walk again. But I CAN walk. And breathe.
