Just how distracted can I get? And just how easily?
I knew this happened. I remember knowing it happened and I remember it hurting.
But then I forgot.
Yesterday I nuked some frozen veggies, and when I ruthlessly sliced open the bag, the steam burst right onto my right thumb, from the first knuckle to the base of the nail.
It was proper painful. Stung something fierce.
But while I was leaving the bathroom after running cold water over it, I got distracted.
(This is something medical science should investigate, concerning pain management.)
Mid-morning today, the sunlight spilled in and illuminated my right thumb. I was startled when I saw that the thumb looked like the Elephant Man. A large blister, exaggerated enough to droop and sag, and when I bent the thumb to examine it more closely, fluid spurted out and the blistered skin fell open. I remembered the steam from yesterday.
What distracted me from a painfully steamed finger? I don’t know. Maybe I’ll remember that tomorrow.
I washed the area and applied Neosporin, and a bandaid.
Weird.
