"if vaccinated, you are much less likely to get a serious case of CoViD if you DO get it, and, so, much less likely to go to the hospital, and much less likely to die."
But Americans, watching TV, often don't get nuance or even the gyst of the argument when it has that many words. A lot of us are like babies, distracted when someone jangles keys.
He got a very mild case. At his age, that alone should show you how effective the vaccinations & boosters are at preventing serious cases, hospitalization, death.
Which is the point of vaccinations.
Someone should have told the parents of the American young man who just got polio.
I don't know if Biden is demented, but having Trump hijack the CoViD press conferences and make bullshit up out of whole cloth... Fauci had some bad waters to navigate.
But I agree about overall PR. I wish the CDC/NIH had come out at the beginning and framed this as "ongoing science", telling people that recommendations would change as we learned more, and talking about how the initial recommendations would be conservative, best guesses...which they were.
And we should be relieved that the vaccinations far exceeded Fauci's "50% effective...or maybe even 60%" wishes.
@Punches When you live life as a stutterer, with *his* type of stutter, and you take a job that is a high-stress, high-stakes job, so you often get less sleep than you'd like...and you do that at *his* age...then let's see what people say about *your* mental health.
Biden can't say 10 coherent words without a teleprompter, and even then, he often gets it wrong. And no, it's not just his stutter; Biden never was smart, but a look at old YouTube clips will show that he was not nearly as bad as he is now. His problem is cognitive.
And a recent CNN poll showed that even among Democrats, 75% of them do NOT want him to run again in 2024.
"...but having Trump hijack the CoViD press conferences and make bullshit up out of whole cloth... Fauci had some bad waters to navigate."
And despite all of Trump's BS on camera, Trump still saw to it that vaccines were developed in record time. Meanwhile, Fauci was doing his best to cover up any suggestion that the Covid virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, or that Fauci had funded gain of function research there.
Prompts Abraham Lincoln read his short speech at Gettysberg, PA, off of an envelope. People who want to get it right have used notes for a very long time and teleprompters help to get things out.
Cognitive I am concerned about Biden, but if you can diagnose problems, with the stipulated background he has, over TV clips, then you should set up shop and offer your long-distance diagnostic services from Fiji via skype, etc.
2024 Nominee I hope someone else gets the Democratic nomination and runs, and no not the VP.
Trump
And despite all of Trump's BS on camera, Trump still saw to it that vaccines were developed in record time.
No. He didn't "see to" anything which he SHOULD have "seen to".
And Pfizer didn't take the proferred $...and they have a very highly-effective vaccine.
Let's be clear: Trump signed paperwork, then did everything to screw up the vaccine reception & perception which he could:
1) lying about it from the beginning
2) grandstanding at what were supposed to be briefings by *actual* experts, not a self-proclaimed "expert"
3) making up alternative, unsafe "treatments" (bleach, UV, Ivermectin)
4a) NOT fixing things he COULD HAVE & SHOULD HAVE fixed (PPE, etc.)
4b) NOT learning from Taiwan & New Zealand about how to handle things far more effectively
5) NOT being first in line to get himself, the First Lady, etc., vaccinated on camera & in public and asking everyone in America to get vaccinated
6) NOT getting a full-fledged rollout plan
Wuhan I'd like to know what they did. I'm not sure what happened, but the geographical origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is suggestive.
Abraham Lincoln Yes, Lincoln referred to notes written on an envelope at Gettysburg. Biden would have required a word-for-word teleprompter transcript, and probably would have plagiarized the speech to boot. Otherwise, comparing our greatest President with our worst is bizarre. 🙄
Cognitive Biden's cognitive deficits are perfectly obvious to anyone with eyes and ears. And no, I am not diagnosing the specific cause (Atherosclerosis? Alzheimers? Subdural hematoma? Something else? Only his physicians know for sure, and they ain't talking, for obvious reasons.)
2024 Nominee We agree there. It surely won't be Biden or his disaster of a VP.
Trump
"And Pfizer didn't take the proferred $...and they have a very highly-effective vaccine."
Pfizer not only took the $$$, they are taking much more now.
Pfizer signs new $3.2 billion COVID vaccine deal with U.S. government
"The average price per dose in the new deal is over $30, a more than 50% increase from the $19.50 per dose the U.S. government paid in its initial contract with Pfizer."
Abraham Lincoln Yes, Lincoln referred to notes written on an envelope at Gettysburg. Biden would have required a word-for-word teleprompter transcript, and probably would have plagiarized the speech to boot.
Lincoln's notes ARE "a word-for-word...transcript" of his speech.
Otherwise, comparing our greatest President with our worst is bizarre. 🙄
You don't get to
• choose my illustrations (you were grousing about something which had been this way for a *long* time, as though you just become aware of it), or • set the order of Presidents (historians put Trump in the basement with 3 other jokers).
Re: plagiarism Good memory, that bothered tf out of me when he did that years ago, too...probably meaning his speech writer did it.
Of course, he has people now who should be able to string together a few words without quoting someone else unless it is noted, intended, etc.
Cognitive Biden's cognitive deficits are perfectly obvious to anyone with eyes and ears.
Good avoidance while you actually DO assert a diagnosis of a condition.
I still don't know if this is what a tired, elderly stutterer presents as, in that job.
I am concerned, but I'll take Biden on his worst day over Trump any day.
Vaccine You don't deal with the info from the time period in question.
For the initial vaccine, the part in which Trump had the hand in authorizing "Operation Warp Speed", Pfizer made use of the allowance for parallel phase testing of their vaccine, but didn't take the offered incentive $$$, from all reports.
Of course they sold the vaccine.
But you are smart enough to know what was meant, since a deal *now* certainly was *not* set up by Trump. So...why?
"Lincoln's notes ARE "a word-for-word...transcript" of his speech."
It must have been a very large envelope then. 😂
And why are there something like six extant versions of the speech, if Lincoln had it all written down on an envelope...? 🤔
"Re: plagiarism Good memory, that bothered tf out of me when he did that years ago, too...probably meaning his speech writer did it."
Biden has a LONG history of plagiarism, dating back at least to his first year in a second-rate law school, where he later graduated near the bottom of his class. 🙄
@ProfessorPlum77 This such a silly argument. I guess Biden did plagiarize.
Maybe Trump didn't, but it's close to the ONLY sin against humanity he did not commit to satisfy his over-weening ego.
I have noticed of late that there is much less Trump-justifying and much more Biden-maligning.
Like, "Oh, yeah, well, maybe our guy DID brainwash his supporters and sent them into the Capitol which not only put them and the defenders into mortal danger, but resulted in deaths on both sides."
Did he try to stop them when he was begged to do so?
"Well, no. He was busy proof-reading an 'I did so win after all' speech to ensure there was no plagiarism."
