Doesn't matter how infectious it is if it doesn't make people very ill. The common cold is highly infectious. Why do we keep being given these facts, how many people have it, or how infectious it is. The only real fact is how many more will it kill than a normal winter, and how many people are being denied treatment for other illnesses because of it.

@meJess Very well said jess 👍

@meJess Jess, yes, its far more deadly than flu, and it's more infectious.. it seems to invade the respiratory system to a greater degree. definitely not the same as flu, which doesn't ususally kill even most older people.. covid does, They do produce figs regarding how many people above the normal expected death rate..

@Adaydreambeliever The freedom of information demand in the UK showed that less people had died of pulmonary disease in 2020 up to October than in a normal year, so including both covid and flu, emphysema etc. Might not be the same everywhere of course. Teaching people to wash their hands has probably helped with all diseases.

@meJess but we have the figures, we have the normal figures and the number of deaths is way above that, to the extent that they believe that the figures we have for Covid deaths is under-estimated.. then there are also all those who die because of non-covid related things because they didn't get hospital treatment because of covid.. they now say for every one that dies of covid another dies from non-treatment of another disease.

So those numbers are out there... they were quoting them regularly a while ago

Dont forget the numbers we see on our screens are ONLY those who die within 28 days of a covid diagnosis.. it isnt the total number of deaths in teh country! That's way more.. these are extra deaths..

I am in the uK too
As I say they used to report the excess deaths, in fact that was kinda how they first started reporting it.. they do so less now but I think that's because most people understand that what they are reporting is ONLY Covid related deaths and we know that not all covid deaths fall into that category

Here's something...
>>The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has so far killed at least half a million people worldwide and has led to over 64,000 excess deaths in the UK. And although it is a global pandemic – triggered by the same SARS-CoV-2 virus – the impacts of the pandemic and the responses to it have been anything but the same across countries.<<

@Adaydreambeliever Flu is a killer and especially of old people. Its potency varies from year to year and there have been three pandemics in the last hundred years
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
@Hasmita but NOT as much as COVID.. this is unprecedented. Flu doesn't kill MOST old people.. COVID can and has been.. and this has been shown to be above that expected for flu.. and it's killed middle aged people... young people.. it's leaving young people with long covid, previously fit people.. this doesnt happen with flu... it is different.... The facts are out there, I don't need to convince anyone.. people can listen to the evidence.. and make up their own mind.. providing they do actually listen to and read the evidence

@Adaydreambeliever Not denying that covid kills a range of people.

My point is that flu is not a minor virus. It kills
