It's kinda interesting how COVID regulations have become the new normal.

Listening to back catalogues of my podcasts when i hear them getting elbow to elbow in a crowd or leaning in close to talk i get uncomfortable! Before i realize ah, that was in teh before times lol.

How long do you think the changes will last? I'm from a rural area that has only had a couple of cases early in the pandemic. At first, lots of people were wearing masks in the nearest city, but not in my local village. Things don't seem to have changed much here, as opposed to the major cities.
@Bushranger

I think at least until we get a widely available vaccine. And maybe beyond that.
Maybe we'll see mask wearing become more common as it is in Asian countries.

Cities are definitely a bigger vector for disease spread but i wish your silly english hamlet would take it just as seriously lol

@Bushranger Another reason why living in the country is very healthy!

@Pikachu Not English, my friend, lol. But we did take it seriously in the beginning, self isolating, hand sanitiser all over the place, non-essential services closed. But the state is now allowed to move around and mix socially and masks aren't even compulsory.

The good thing is that, hopefully, come the next flu season people will self isolate, use good hand hygiene and wear masks. We might hopefully see a big reduction in serious flu cases.

@helenS Yep, one of the reasons we moved here 35 years ago 😀
@Bushranger

lol just guessing. It's usually British folks who refer to their little towns as villages.

I know regulations have been lifted (probably prematurely) but it's a bit shit that they don't even have mask wearing as compulsory.

@Pikachu It is in Victoria but not in any of the other states. But even Victoria will be easing the restrictions on masks soon.
@Bushranger

Wait what? You don't have to wear masks in most of the states?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Just curious, what country do you think I'm in? LOL. We relied more on isolation than masks. Seems to have worked, though.
@Bushranger

Well you mentioned the state so i thought that meant the US but now that seems like a trick!
Um....Australia? That would seem to incorporate the british "villages" and states...
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Yep, we got states in Australia and a couple of territories too. Like the US, there were slightly different approaches in each of the states, but generally very similar. Victoria had the toughest restrictions which seem to have paid off in terms of reducing the number of infections. Something like zero cases and deaths in five days.
@Bushranger

Ah yes, i had heard that Australia had done a lot better than the US or the UK in general.
Is that still holding true?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Pikachu Yes, and certainly better than the US. I'm amazed that a country as supposedly advanced as the US handled the pandemic so badly. But, then again, I suppose that's what you get in a country run by a science illiterate.
@Bushranger

Well the US is shockingly similar to a developing nation in certain aspects including healthcare and scientific literacy.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Pikachu It's sad, really. It used to be such an advanced country.
@Bushranger

Well maybe it will be again! Once they get less obsessed with how great MURRICA is and more concerned making it great.
I think there's a good chance of that. If only because one of their main exports (celebrities) tend to be left leaning.
