I Wish Cancer Didnt Exist

My father has terminal liver cancer and is not expected to live past this year. Hospice has come to his room to discuss with him care and living arrangements. I am the only next of kin who will be deciding what happens when he can no longer make anymore decisions. I will also be covering funeral costs. This is very overwhelming, and I must travel to Texas when it happens.

Make sure he has a living will all filled out. That way, instead of you making all his decisions he is making them now. Find out from hospice if your father will receive any money from medicare or medicaid for funeral expenses. If he was a veteran, funeral expenses are covered. Contact the funeral home near where your father would be buried and discuss costs over the phone. Find out if they have payment plans.

@4meAndyou Thank you so very much for that advice. He was not a veteran, but I will definitely ask more questions. I have also asked him to make a will, but he doesn't really have anything to his name, or anything he really feels he wants to give away. I would like to have something to remember him by, but it is up to him to make a will. Thank you!
