Health issues since retirement

I was five years retired last week and had my 65th birthday Unfortunately most of my time since then has been taken up with major health issues. I seem to have spent most of my time either as an inpatient or outpatient.
I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in October2019 and got the all clear in late 2020. However last April it returned and I underetook extensive treatment. At the moment it is still there but under control
I have been very fortunate to have had the support of my family and the most wonderful friends.
At the moment my general health is good and I am living a full and normal life.

@Andrew7Jackson Best wishes. What kind of cancer do you have? My neighbor has lung cancer from smoking. I have prostate cancer and am currently getting radiation treatments. I have 8 more to go. I won't know if they have worked until July. Right now I feel great.

@Diotrephes I have lymphoma Best of luck with your radiation. Glad your currently feeling great.

The sad story of life. When you are working, nothing happens and then you dream of rest and retirement and all hell breaks loose.

all the very best, it is good to see you have a strong support system, it always helps.

63 here and considering retirement next year but getting paid and having health insurance is kind of nice. No idea what Ill do with myself while retired but like you say, should try to enjoy a bit of life before the body gives out.

Do you think retirement has something to do with your health issues
I've often heard of people who stop working suddenly develop sickness
Andrew7Jackson · 61-69, M
@angie8819 Not with me. I was glad to retire. I am all clear now thankfully

Sorry about the cancer I retired last year at 62 my health is good I am blessed seen to many wait until they were in bad shape and couldnt enjoy themselves. I hope you get better and can enjoy your retirement the way you want!

Keep on going! My experience has been similar, but with non-cancer health issues. I am in pain, but it is "getting well" pain.

All the best. My wife went through it 12 years ago. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

All my best wishes for it staying under control or indeed receding..
