Most Municipalities and Counties have a procedure for funerals for what they call "paupers" and will give you at least a decent burial or cremation depending on their regulations.

@spjennifer years ago I was friends with a mortician that told me this is how it worked for our county in a US State: when a stiff was declared (pauper death), the coroners office had a rotation list of all the morticians in the county and rotated the labor and expenses between those funeral homes.

@BackyardShaman That's probably how it works in many places, the county pays the mortician a minimum and the pauper gets the el cheapo funeral.

in the US, your state/jurisdiction would foot the bill for a basic burial

In Australia, you would have at least a pauper's funeral run by a local Church.
Your ashes would be interred and there may be some people from a local church organisation to represent the community to say goodbye.

That is an option. My ex’s roommate was a self-admitted alcoholic. He died this past year and His body was donated to science and one crematorium in the area will offer free services in exchange for that.

It likely depends on where you die, very likely you’d be cremated but I have no clue what they’d do with the ashes.

In England you'd get a pauper's funeral

It depends on where you live.

Does it matter, you will not know anything about it when you're dead !!!
